چکیده

Twenty four study areas of three most widespread soil types (pebble rendzinas, typical brown soils and pseudopodzolic soils) all over Estonia were selected. In each group of soil type, eight fields were selected for studies in 2003–2004. The mean abundance of earthworm communities was the highest in pseudopodzolic soils (107.11±22.4 individuals per m) and lower in pebble rendzinas (47.94±11.25 individuals per m) and typical brown soils (72.97±15.13 individuals per m). The number of earthworm species in a community was 1–6. In all fields 7 species of earthworms were found, also a few individuals of 3 species. Soil moisture influences the abundance of earthworm communities more than soil type whereas ecological and specific structures are less influenced by soil moisture. Pebble rendzinas are suitable habitats for earthworms but periodical drying out decreases the abundance of earthworms. In pseudopodzolic soils the abundance is higher if there are optimal moisture conditions, due to increasing abundance of ecologically tolerant endogeic species. In typical brown soils the diversity and number of juvenile individuals is high which indicates suitable conditions for habitat in this type of soil.

Relationship between Dead Trees with Soil Physico-chemical Properties and Earthworm in Mixed Broad-leaved Forest Stand (Case study: Sarcheshmeh Forest, Chaloos)

Dead trees protection, has a key role in structural and biogeochemical processes in forest ecosystems. Some aspects of dead tree dynamics have been carefully studied, but the kind and decay degree of dead trees and forest soil properties have not received enough attention. The aim of this research was to study the effect of a kind and decay degree of dead trees on soil mineral properties in the...

Improved Performance of Soil Microbial Fuel Cell by Adding Earthworms

Soil microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) are expected as an application to produce sustainable energy. Here, we focused on soil ecosystems, specifically the earthworms which are known to improve soil-fertility by degrading fallen leaves or plant litter. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of earthworm on power generation of the SMFC. The maximum power density and the internal res...

The effects of forest practices on earthworm populations and soil microbial biomass in a hardwood forest in Missouri

Physical changes caused by forest management practices can have a dramatic effect on the soil biota in a forest ecosystem. The effects of soil compaction associated with harvesting on earthworm populations and selected soil properties were measured in a hardwood (oak-hickory) forest in Missouri. Soils in this region of Missouri are characterized by a cherty residuum that is primarily of the Cla...

Endogeic earthworms differentially influence bacterial communities associated with different soil aggregate size fractions

Endogeic earthworm activities can strongly influence soil structure. Although soil microorganisms are thought to be central to earthworm-facilitated aggregate formation, how and where within the soil matrix earthworm-facilitated influences on soil microbial communities are manifested is poorly defined. In this study we used 16S rRNA gene-based terminal restriction fragment polymorphism (T-RFLP)...

Annelid coenoses of wetlands representing different decomposer communities

Annelid coenoses in wet soils reveal specific characteristics in relation to the prevailing complex of abiotic and biotic factors effective in these soils. Especially, the presence or lack of oxygen in the topsoil is of great influence for species composition and vertical distribution of annelids in wet soils. Some annelids, for example most of the smaller enchytraeids, avoid the anaerobic cond...
